The white Caucasian Shepherd
The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is an ancient guardian breed developed over centuries in the rugged Caucasus region, where its role was clear — protect livestock, property and family from wolves, bears and intruders.
In these harsh mountain environments, practical function always came first.
Historically, darker coat colours were often preferred in many working lines, as they blended more naturally into the landscape and offered better camouflage during night guarding and predator encounters.
Lighter white and cream-coloured dogs, although naturally occurring within the breed, were less commonly preserved in some traditional working populations — one reason true white Caucasian Shepherd bloodlines are considered rare today.
Despite their rarity, white Caucasian Shepherds are authentic representatives of the breed, carrying the same strength, guardian instinct and noble presence that define the Caucasian Shepherd Dog.
Their striking appearance often causes confusion with the Central Asian Shepherd (Alabai), but they are a distinct breed with their own history, structure and temperament.
The breed is officially recognised by the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI) under Standard No. 328.

The Caucasian Shepherd Dog is one of the oldest guardian breeds in the world, developed over centuries in the mountainous Caucasus region, including Armenia and Georgia.
These powerful dogs were bred to protect livestock, homes and families from wolves, predators and intruders in some of the harshest environments imaginable. Unlike many modern breeds created mainly for appearance, the Caucasian Shepherd was shaped by survival, working ability and natural guardian instinct.
Historically, darker coat colours were often preferred in traditional working environments because they blended more naturally into mountain terrain during night guarding. For this reason, true white bloodlines became less common over time, making White Caucasian Shepherds rare today.
